This is a class designed to teach about Black American History beyond just slavery and civil rights. Black Americans have been major players in creating the America we have today and it's important to pay tribute to and educate people on how amazing these individuals were. As this is a self paced class Google presentations/videos and worksheets will be sent out as you go. The student is responsible for completing the worksheets and returning them by Friday of each week for a grade. There will also be an essay due at the end of the session in which the student will choose two of the individuals and explain how their contribution changed society. As this is an international class, and not an English/writing class the grading will be based on the content and understanding of the ideas and subject and not spelling or grammar. I have a degree in History as well as passed my teaching test in Massachusetts. I use my love of History and facts to help children understand that history is conceived of real people who did real things. I found Social Studies class boring as a child because the teachers concentrated mostly on dates and statistics rather than the humans behind the events. I use the historical documents and primary sources to bring the past to life.
