課堂經歷

The FBI is one of the most well-recognized, and secretive administrative agencies in the United States. In 'Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI' we learn the controversial, captivating, and true story of the birth of the FBI!

This narrative non-fiction, by journalist David Grann, takes us back to Osage, OK in the 1920's where some of the nations wealthiest people (all members of the Osage Nation) are being killed off one-by-one - and anyone who dares investigate the murders is eventually killed themselves.

As the death toll rises to over 24, the newly created Federal Bureau of Investigations takes on the case. But this struggling new agency is corrupt and immediately bungles the case. The agencies young director, J. Edgar Hoover, solicits an infamous Texas Ranger to help unravel the mystery of the Osage murders and save the agency before it's scrapped forever. Using the most modern detective techniques of the time, they eventually expose one of the most sinister conspiracies in all of U.S. history.

Each week, learners will have an interactive, guided discussion about the previous weeks reading assignment using Google Slides, Nearpod, and Pear Deck. Our discussions will include questionnaires, polls, and other activities related to the book to keep engagment up. I will also include additional bits of relevant history, and information about the US government, to reenforce readers understanding of the time-period, setting, policies, events, and more.

I have a 20-year career working in government, law, and criminal justice. I served as a Corrections Specialist with the Military Police, and I've worked with hundreds of attorney's, victims rights advocates, and even former FBI agents as a paralegal and freelance legal content developer. I also hold both bachelors and masters degrees in legal studies. Throughout my career, I have worked with and studied many marginalized groups, including women in prison, child victims, and racial minorities, to include Native Americans. My research specifically included the mistreatment of these groups by government agencies and their representatives.

My goal as a teacher is to help the next generations understand how the system really works; the good, the bad, and the ugly. As a homeschool mom and teacher, I have worked with dozens of local teens and tweens studying difficult and complex topics surrounding the government and law.
