課堂經歷

A biome is a large geographic area with a distinctive population of plants and animals adapted to the prevailing climate. Making connections by learning about each biome’s plants and animals, we will map the world’s physical geography together.  Students will prepare report presentations to share with fellow learners on the inhabitants of one biome each week.  We will develop mapping skills through the process of mapping the locations of the biomes.
Week 1: Introduction to Climate and Biomes
Week 2:  Tundra
Week 3: Taiga
Week 4: Deciduous Forests
Week 5: Shrubland
Week 6: Desert
Week 7: Rainforest
Week 8:  Home Biome - Report on own biome

Mary Margaret O'Melia has a bachelor's degree in English and a law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In addition, she has a certificate in alternative dispute resolution and completed the Augustine Literacy Project 60-hour training in multi-sensory reading instruction (for dyslexic learners). She has shared her project-based classes with learners aged 5-18 since 2005. She has experience teaching learners with learning differences, including 2E students.  She has been a homeschool mom to two smart, funny kids for more than 15 years. She loves the excitement of engaged learners and encourages active learning for all ages.

Mary Margaret taught her first online class for Gifted Homeschoolers Forum in 2013. Mary Margaret has years of experience and deep knowledge of the content for her classes.  Mary Margaret develops her own curricula, drawing from the best resources available. For each student, Mary Margaret focuses on building understanding of the material, critical thinking, academic skills, and social connections between students. She understands and respects different learning styles. Mistakes are treated as opportunities to grow and learn. Class discussions and participation foster student ownership of the learning process.
