課堂經歷
In this camp, we examine 4 Ethical Questions (one each day of class): Is it Ever Okay to Lie? What are the ethics of Invisibility? Should Pugs Exist? What is the Lifeboat Dilemma? Through Socratic questioning and discussion, we offer different scenarios and information about each situation and then discuss whether things are right, wrong or somewhere in between. We study what philosophers of the past and present have to say about the topics and dive deep into what each of these mean and what are the potential consequences of each. All of our classes are highly interactive and discussion based. We use Socratic Questioning because it helps to draw out the students and encourages them to participate in the discussion as they formulate and articulate what they think and believe about each topic. Hearing what others have to say on a topic helps students refine their own beliefs and sometimes challenges them in a way that allows for examination in a safe, egalitarian environment. This class is primarily discussion based with the teachers offering information, scenarios and guiding questions to move the discussion along. There is no prior knowledge necessary for any of the Big Juicy Questions classes. We make sure that everyone in the class gets a chance to share their thoughts on each topic.
學習目標
Through Socratic questioning and discussion, students will flush out the the black, white and gray areas of this Big Juicy Question. Students will learn to articulate their thoughts about the topic, listen carefully, and respectfully consider the thoughts of their fellow students.

父母的引導和規範
Our conversations are age appropriate and inclusive. Ethical questions can bring out opposing viewpoints. We encourage students to give reasons for their point of view and never allow attacking, unkind, or inappropriate behavior towards another student. We understand that learning to think critically, articulate your thoughts and beliefs, and allow for opposing viewpoints are important skills for everyone to have. We believe that the best way to develop those skills is through interesting, respectful discourse. Our students do a great job of engaging in mature conversations about interesting, ethical topics.

We have taught these very popular Ethics classes and others in our Big Juicy Questions series multiple times to students ages 9-18 both in classrooms and online. We have been trained in leading Socratic Seminars and have been teaching classes using this method for over a decade. Our skills include the ability to draw out students through questioning, help them sort out their thoughts, discover new ones, and see new ideas through discovery and inquiry. Our role is to challenge students to think more deeply, not to share our own thoughts about an ethical topic. We have years of experience guiding students through respectful discussions on a variety of topics. We have good classroom management skills and are firm in our rules of using respect and kindness.
