In this one-time class, students will learn  the correct basic skills in typing/ keyboarding.  They will learn the finger numbers and the home keys.  Students will practice using each finger on the home row keys to type.  They will practice typing words using only the home keys.  After learning the home row keys, students will move to learning the letters on the row above the home row (Q, W, E, R, T, Y, U, I , O, and P).  They will also learn the row below the home row (Z,X,C,V,B,N, and M). They will be given information about free typing websites for students that can be used to increase their responses and speed.  

Students need to be able to have access to a word processing program on their computer during class (such as Word, LibreOffice Writer, etc.) and access to a full sized computer keyboard.  They can either have both the word processing program and class pulled up at the same time on the computer, or they could take the class on a phone or IPad and use the word processing program on the computer. 

As a retired public school teacher, typing skills have been put to good use in my classes.  I took several typing classes in high school and have decided that they have been one of the most useful skills I learned.  I had a wonderful typing teacher in high school, who taught her students by using the  home "key" method.  Because of this, I have been able to type class notes, website information, lesson plans, and class curriculum throughout the years at a fast pace.  I look forward to sharing this knowledge with your learner and helping them to begin using the home keys with confidence. 

Students  will be introduced to additional websites that can be used for practiced and informal testing to increase their speed and accuracy.
