課堂經歷
This class is specially designed for students who graduated from "Beginners Piano Camp #2". In this class we will review and build on the concepts learned in the first two camps. Students will review scales and chords and reach new major milestones: learning how to read notes on the music staff for the first time, and learning how to use a lead sheet to play with both hands. In addition, students will learn O Susanna, a classic American folk song, and Fur Elise, one of the most popular Beethoven melodies. During class we will play clapping/rhythm games, sing, play songs together, and write our own song! Creativity and fun are encouraged! During class I teach musical concepts like counting/rhythm using slides and a whiteboard with interactive exercises and games. Students will also be given printable handouts with games and exercises to practice with. I demonstrate how to play songs step-by-step on the keyboard and have students follow along and practice individually. Students learn best by staying highly engaged, and so I also use singing and clapping exercises to help cement concepts and bring another element of fun into the lessons. Class Schedule Week 1 - Review C Major Cadence: left hand - Introduction to reading notes: middle C-G - Learn O Susanna - Trying playing O Susanna with a lead sheet (adding chords in left hand) - Review Game Week 2: - Scales: review C Major scale and learn the left hand - Continue learning how to read notes: Middle C – G - Review O Susanna with lead sheet - Rhythm practice: eighth notes - Learn first half of Fur Elise Week 3 - Scales: review C Major scale with left hand - Write a song together using notes C-G - Learn last half of Fur Elise - Review game Week 4 - Review Fur Elise - Review games - Performances - Celebrate with certificates!

Hi! I have been teaching for six years and love making learning fun for learners of all ages and levels. I teach music and Chinese, as well as other subjects, and have experience teaching students age four to retired adults, and everywhere in between! I have a B.A. in Chinese Language and Culture with a double Minor in Music and Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) from Western Washington University (WWU). Three things that students will quickly learn about me is that I am passionate about what I teach, I love people, and I am a little crazy about the color purple.
It was when I started teaching violin and piano six years ago that I first discovered that my love for teaching. I enjoy inviting students to experience the joy of making music and sharing it with others. I fell in love with the beauty and richness of Chinese when I took my first Chinese class in 2015. I went on to complete my Major in Chinese Language and Culture at WWU in 2017 and was named the Outstanding Graduate for my department’s graduating class. As part of my degree I studied in Chengdu, China for one semester.
Language and music have much in common. They are like complex codes, with symbols that hold mystery and invite discovery. I see myself as a code-breaker, and my role is to give students the key to breaking the code and discovering meaning and fun for themselves. I love seeing the light of understanding dawn in a student’s eyes and sharing in the excitement they feel when they piece the puzzle together! I believe that motivation is key to learning, and so I fill class time with fun games and activities and tailor my instruction to the needs and goals of my students.
When I’m not teaching, I enjoy taking bike rides in the sun, reading good books, and cooking.
