Have you ever wondered what life is like in a beehive? What do bees do all day? In this class, we will explore the inner workings of a honeybee hive. Explore the shapes found in a hive, and find out why nature chose these shapes as the best ones for the bees. Learn about the castes (types) of bees that call a hive home, and what jobs they do to keep the hive running smoothly. Discuss why we need the bees, and why they need us. This class is designed to meet Next Generation Science...
Students will learn about the vital role bees play in the ecosystems and agriculture we rely on. Students will use age-appropriate math skills and the engineering design process to determine why nature has structured a beehive the way it has.
My work with bees and other organisms began as a child. Since then my passion for pollinators has led me to teach environmental science as a public school teacher, and to homeschool organizations. I have also had the privilege of working with many community organizations including the Girl Scouts, YMCA's, STEAM clubs, and more. As a beekeeper I enjoy sharing my knowledge of Earth's precious pollinators with learners of all ages.
Learners will need something to write with and a surface to write on. This can be pencil and paper or a dry erase board and pen.
