How did the outcome of World War I lead to the Second World War?  And HOW did alliances between the Soviet Union and the United States, and Germany and Japan manifest in spite of geographical distance and ideological differences?
These are the questions that will be answered during this one time class.

During a class that is comprised of lecture, slides, discussion interactive assessment tools and role playing, students will discover how  disgruntled losers, sore winners, a Revolution, a Great Depression and isolationist policies led to the perfect storm now called World War II. 
The 45 minute class will be comprised of:
10 minutes about the outcomes of WWI and global changes from 1919 to 1939
15 minutes about alliances, agreements and leaders who reneged on their agreements
the remaining class time spent with students applying their new knowledge and synthesizing it via role playing. 

Students should have a basic understanding of the "players" in each World War, but that knowledge is not required.  The horrific aspects of WWII will NOT be covered in this class, thus it is a safe environment for sensitive students.   

Students will explore the impact of the Treaty of Versailles on the world, the world economy, and on Germany in particular.  Additionally they will discover that Russia endured a revolution, the United States was focused on rebounding from a devastating economic depression, much of Europe was economically depressed and ripe for invasion by their neighbors, the impact of Japanese Imperialism and how Italy went from a WWI ally to a WWI Axis power. Students will trace World War I and the Treaty of Versailles through world events and circumstances in each country that contributed to the advent of World War II.

Discussion and interaction are required elements of this class and students are STRONGLY urged to use their cameras and microphones in order to receive the full benefits of this class. 

**********PLEASE READ*************
Outschool has recently changed its policy regarding class cancellations. We know how disappointing canceled classes can be for learners, so we too are amending our policy.  In the past we have waited for late enrollees, of which we have had MANY!  Unfortunately we can no longer do that. 
 
If enrollment falls below 3 learners 48 hours before this class is scheduled to begin, it will be rescheduled for a later date. Full refunds will be provided for learners who cannot attend the newly scheduled class time. All other refunds will be provided as per the Outschool Limited Refund policy (see below).  If for any reason the class does not meet your expectation, you have the confidence of knowing that Outschool has a Happiness Guarantee and will provide a refund upon request via their Customer Support. 

Transfer requests within 24 hours of a scheduled class will NOT be approved.  At that point it is too late to reschedule the class, and it is unfair to other families who may have enrolled thinking there were multiple learners enrolled. Instead students will be encouraged to watch the video of the class.

1)     Students will connect WWII leaders to their respective countries.
2)     Students will correlate the outcomes of WWI to the conditions that led to WWII.
3)     Students will analyze and discuss the philosophies and orientations of the leaders during World War II.
4)     Students will describe and present their chosen leader through role-playing.

War can be a sensitive topic for many students. While we will not discuss the actual war, sensitive students may be challenged with the outcomes of World War I and how they led to the rise of the leaders and countries that participated in the second World War.

Paper and a writing instrument are needed for the role playing activity.  Students are also asked to complete the K and W portions of the K-W-L chart prior to class.
