Whether your learner is already passionate about writing or you are looking to cultivate a passion for writing join our class! Students will have the opportunity to collaborate, build upon their pre-existing skills, and develop a deeper love for the art of writing. 

Authors at work in this class will do best if they can already form several sentences to compose a piece of at least one or more paragraphs. Using prompts provided, or coming to class with their own ideas ready, authors will elaborate upon their thoughts through their writing. I want to provide learners with as much freedom of creativity as possible. I will critique, provide suggestions and meet each learner at their own ability while helping them expand upon the unique skill set they each bring with them. Authors who need extra help formulating sentences are welcome to use sentence frames I provide. I am also happy to help structure graphic organizers to keep our thoughts properly assembled as we build our short stories. 
 
As we create pieces, we will provide a special focus on organization and story elements such as setting, characters, plot (beginning, middle and end), conflict/climax, and resolution. We will close our class by sharing our pieces if the writer chooses. If they choose not share, I would certainly like to have a picture uploaded in a message to me so, that I may provide adequate feedback in future classes. I look forward to meeting your young author soon and hearing the pieces of work they share aloud!

Students are welcome to use the prompts I provide or write freely with an idea that comes to mind.

Schedule:

Week of March 31st - April 6th:
Prompt: The characters from your book come to life... 

Week of April 7th - April 13th:
Prompt: "As he crumbled his fortune cookie he found a tiny, little map inside. He realized it was of..."

Week of April 14th - April 20th:
Prompt: Who can use the most adjectives in their story? Let's see who can make their writing the most descriptive!

Week of April 21st - April 27th:
Prompt: Think of a classic fairy tale and make your own spin on it. Put yourself in!

Week of April 28th- May 4th:
Prompt: You wake up one morning and have turned into an ant. What's the world like from your perspective?

Prompt: A young child finds an ancient sword in an abandoned storage locker. It has magical powers.

A typical class for our creative writing club may look as follows:
5 min- meet, greet and introduce prompt
5 min- brainstorm ideas, use graphic organizers if needed to plan out story
15 min- write 
5 min- share out/closing

Materials needed: 
-paper (lined or not! Though lined will help to keep our sentences aligned.) 
-a writing utensil (pencils preferred)

Disclaimer: If there are zero learners enrolled 24 hours before a meeting time the meeting is presumed to be canceled.

Cancellation policy: As an ongoing class, learner subscriptions are charged on a weekly basis. If a learner is going to miss class please stop the subscription by the Saturday before to ensure you aren't charged. A refund will not be issued otherwise.
