Join us for an hour of art history, science and hands-on painting! Georges Seurat was a French Impressionist painter who specialized in a style of painting called Pointillism. He painted pictures using tiny dots of paint color instead of the usual brush strokes and solid areas of color. We will begin the class with a short lecture and presentation of images and discussion on Neo-Impressionism, Pointillism and Chromoluminarism (Divisionism). Students will learn art history (Neo-Impressionism and Seurat's artworks), as well as the science behind the concept of Divisionism/Chromoluminarism, which is known as Pointillism today. We will also explore how Pointillism works in modern-day digital printing, as well!
I offer several art history courses on Outschool and have a lot of success teaching about various artists and art movements of the 19th-21st century. I am passionate about art and enjoy teaching children about different styles and techniques.
- Tempera or acrylic paints in several colors (watercolors can work, but will give a different effect and final result) - cotton swabs (Q-tips) - watercolor paper or canvas - pencil - optional: small paintbrushes
