Students will identify the difference between the area and perimeter by creating a visual representation. Students will solve for the perimeter of a few shapes. Students will transition to finding the area of squares and rectangles and make a connection between the formulas. After this, we will move on to finding the area of triangles. Students will identify how and why this formula differs from the others. Towards the end of class we will solve word problems involving the area and perimeter...
Students will find the perimeter and area of squares, rectangles and triangles in both skill and word problems.
This is a lessonI have taught both in a public school with a class of 20-30 students and in private tutoring setting, and I have always been able to identify the misconceptions regarding this lesson. I understand how students respond to it and it allows me to adjust my teaching style to individual needs.
