LEGOS...math...and your own creativity - the ultimate combination! In this class we will use our LEGO blocks to explore perimeter and area as we create a variety of two dimensional designs using rectangles and squares as our base. Students will have the opportunity to take on a variety of geometric challenges based on increasingly complex mathematical and creative criteria as we move through our time together. Students will have time to plan, build, and share their thinking and designs with...
At the end of this class students will be able to define perimeter and area and measure each in mathematical units. Students will be able to create rectangles and squares with a given perimeter and/or area and will be able to incorporate them into a creative design of their choosing.
Helping students discover their talents, passions, and strengths is one of the things that brings me the greatest fulfillment in life. Encouraging them to find a way to plug those talents into their learning is a vital part of who I am. As a former Math/Science teacher and FIRST LEGO League Robotics coach, I have spent countless hours helping elementary school aged children discover the wonder of learning with LEGOS. My work as a Gifted and Talented Specialist taught me the importance of inspiring children to look beyond the obvious to the abstract and helped me to see the joy that comes from viewing every child through the lens of his or her strengths. My hope is that, through my teaching, I can help each child to see himself, or herself, through that lens as well.

Learners will be assessed continuously through observation, questioning, and discussion as we design, create, and share our ideas throughout our time together. Learners will also have an opportunity to use a rubric to reflect on and self assess their own learning.提供的成績
In order get the most out of this session, students should bring their own LEGO bricks to class. I recommend the LEGO basic brick set (11002). I also encourage students to bring a LEGO base plate (11010) to build on. Any color is fine. If students do not have access to LEGO bricks, they can follow along using paper and pencil. (One inch graph paper is best.) LEGO bricks will just make it more fun and interactive.
