課堂經歷
This class will teach students how to look at a skull and identify what an animal eats and if it is a predator or prey species. Class is very hands-on using real skulls to model concepts, an activity sheet for notes, and sculpting or drawing to reinforce the lesson and help make connections. Class includes: -introductions & related question -discussion & lesson on teeth, with real skulls -complete activity page & label types of teeth -learn about eye placement on skulls and...
- Students will understand the major differences between eye placement in the skull of a predator and prey, as well as the differences in the teeth of a carnivore and herbivore. Students who already have a basic understanding will benefit from learning more advanced concepts such as parts of the skull and animal adaptations.
My teaching experience in the life sciences includes ecology, and biology. Before I became a teacher I worked with wildlife, in a microbiology lab, and also in animal welfare. I have always been called to work with children and have volunteered at girl scout camps, zoo camps and children's hospitals. As a teacher on Outschool I am committed to bringing visual and tangible content to the classroom. I believe teaching is more than just a lecture. My students learn best by seeing examples of concepts, and by breaking new content down into manageable pieces. I am always available for questions and support!
Students can use common household ingredients to make their own air dry clay before class (many great recipes online) or they can use any modeling clay, playdough, etc. of their choosing! Some students may prefer to paint or draw and they’ll have fun learning too!
Real animal skulls are used to demonstrate concepts.
