課堂經歷
Welcome! In this class, students will learn about 4 African goddesses in order to be acquainted with African mythologies and delve deeper into black history. First, we visit the Dinka people and the Nuer people, South Sudanese ethnic groups along the Upper Nile, who believe in the first woman-turned-goddess Abuk. Then, we visit the kingdom of Dahomey in Benin, where we learn not only about the Fon people and the king's female amazon warriors, but also about the creator goddess Mawu. Still in Benin, we discover the serpent & rainbow goddess Aido-Hwedo and how her archetype moved to Yoruba spirituality (Benin and Nigeria), and then the Caribbean in Voodoo religion. Lastly, we travel to Ancient Egypt where we learn about Bastet and the importance of cats in this region! In the end, we draw our favourite goddess or create our own!
學習目標
This class will introduce the student to less popular myths while visiting one very popular one (Bastet of Ancient Egypt) in order to expand their cultural awareness of African cultures.

教師專業知識和證書
I already teach African mythology on Outschool. I've practised and studied African spirituality for the past 11 years extensively and an integral part of it is mythology because it explains the origins of mankind, rituals, celebrations, and other aspects of our diverse ways of life. My knowledge not only comes from oral history, but also from books such as The Book of Coming Forth by Day, African Myths of Origin, and several others that I had to read.
