課堂經歷
In the wilderness, or survival situation, it is vitally important to know how to react when faced with distressing circumstances. The human body is remarkable and can withstand minimal resources. Learners will learn how to react to various external conditions that can be critical to save their life. In this course we will have an open discussion where students are able to brainstorm ways to react to several situations outlined. Following the peer discussion we will go over the ways to survive extreme climates, conditions and elements out of our control, such as falling into a frozen pond, the best source of protein in the wilderness, what happens to our body in extreme heat, best way to conserve our energy for survival and the best resources to keep our body functional- to name a few. The class will dive into the human anatomy and what is optimal for various survival situations. Students will leave class prepared to react appropriately to extreme conditions and elements out of their control. This class is for 6-11y age range because I believe education is not only about learning core academics but also about empathy, leadership, and communication. In a mixed-age classroom, older children have the chance to share their knowledge with those who have not yet learned. The benefit for older students is that they learn patience and understanding for those who are still learning while given the opportunity to be a leader and what it means to influence others. The younger student more readily accepts direction and problem solving when in the class with older students. They also improve cognitive development and enhances their social emotional skills.. Both students learn empathy as they increase in their ability to understand that not everyone can learn in the same way. I work really hard to try to enhance this experience by my wording of questions. When basic questions are presented, it isn’t to be too basic but to get them to think about WHY. “ Why do we need shelter?” What does shelter do? Does it protect us from the environment.. animals… our body? How does it help our body? Stabilizing our temperature.. what is the importance of stabilizing our body temp? I can see how it may seem too basic or even very complex terms at times but the leading questions are there to get them to tap into higher level thinking skills and think about the complexity of the body and how shelter would help.

𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨, 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬! 👋🏻 My name is, Teacher Noel, or Mrs. A! It's so nice to meet you! Let me tell you a little bit about myself! I have over ten years experience teaching preschoolers, K-12, and ESL students in class and online. Over the last 12 years I have tutored high school English & college-prep Microbiology! I am TESOL and TEFL certified and have degrees in both Nursing and Secondary Education in Biology 🐸 In addition to my healthcare background and work experience, I also have my Bachelors of Secondary Education in Biology. Learning & education is something I am very passionate about sharing and I will always continue to grow as a teacher, mother, daughter, sister & wife.
“Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it.” – Albert Einstein
This abundance of growth is something I strive to bring to my students. In addition to my educational background, life experience I am presently pursuing my Master of Science in Educational Psychology to serve my community in a different capacity because emotional well-being & learning how to rise when we fall is just as important as breathing.
I love teaching, and I love learning. I think every child deserves the best education. It is my goal to provide classes that will help your child be successful in their learning journey. I believe students who are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning take away more from ANY experience. I believe bodies in motion learn more so I encourage learners to color, build legos, be creative drawing diaphragms of what we are learning etc, simply: keep their bodies stimulated while in class. The science behind this approach, is to stimulate the "little brain" called the cerebellum. The cerebellum takes up only 10% of the brains capacity but is responsible for 80% of the neurons. This is significant because this component of the brain thrives off movement & keeping the body active promotes mental clarity by increasing blood flow to the brain. Therefore, activity, even on the smallest level is vital to both learning & neurological health. If you were in my classroom, you would notice the encouragement of this approach by flexible seating, bright colors, student work on the walls, and not so much technology. Lastly, our class is a unit, we work together and are unified in building each other up! It is my biggest passion to support students' curiosity and explore their questions, passions, and concerns. Students learn best when they are directly involved in the learning. In my classes, your child will be learning content through discussions + interactions.
Teaching is one of my favorite things to do, aside from raising my five children! In my free time, as if us moms have "free" time, I enjoy working on our farm, taking bike rides with the kids, exercising, and D-I-Y projects. I have classes on animals, exercise, secondary science, trivia brain teasers + more! I look forward to meeting your learners and spending time online with them!
In addition to my teaching style, most of my classes have a vast age range, for a reason. I prefer mixed age classrooms because my approach and belief is education is not only about learning core academics but also about empathy, leadership, and communication. The wording of questions specifically target all age ranges without inhibiting either end of the mixed-age spectrum while stimulating higher level cognitive skills.
