This class is part of a series of patriotic classes exploring American Symbols. Students will discover the history of the Statue of Liberty. The class will begin with a welcome song. Students will learn a song about the Statue of Liberty as they view photos and learn history through a PowerPoint slideshow. I will use questioning techniques and discussion as students interact with each other and with me. Following the PowerPoint, I will teach students American Sign Language to the song about the Statue of Liberty. They will create two art projects they may share with the class. They will draw, write, or tell one fact they learned. This class will be informative, engaging, and supportive in a joyful, non-partisan environment. Cameras will need to remain on throughout the class to facilitate interaction with each other and with me, and to allow me to assist in the students' American Sign Language acquisition. Other American Symbols classes in this series (available as individual classes to allow flexibility for students) will include: *American Symbols: Discover the Lincoln Memorial *American Symbols: Discover the White House *American Symbols: Discover the Washington Monument *American Symbols: Discover the Liberty Bell *American Symbols: Discover the U.S. Capitol Building *American Symbols: Discover Mount Rushmore

My excitement about American symbols began with travels to Washington, DC. I loved stepping onto the exact spot Martin Luther King Jr. stood for his iconic I Have a Dream speech on the steps on the Lincoln Memorial. Walking through the White House thrilled me as I imagined the historic individuals who had walked its halls. I have enthusiastically taught many first graders about Washington, DC through books, music, and plays. I'm so excited to share American symbols with Outschool students!評論
