Welcome to Space Camp! This one week camp will be an awesome merge of American Girl doll play, space, crafting and learning. We will learn all about female space pioneers, modern day female astronauts, make solar system necklaces for ourselves and our dolls, create our own planets through drawing, building or sculpting and play space bingo. Here is a day by day run down of the fun: Monday: Today we will introduce ourselves and our dolls and prepare our doll for space camp! Using crafting supplies at home, we will turn our American Girl Dolls into astronauts ready to explore space. If we have time, we will try out a few space yoga poses with our dolls! Tuesday: Today we will learn about some amazing female astronauts including: Valentina Tereshkova, Svetlana Savitskaya, Sally Ride, Christa McAuliffe, Mae Jemison, Eileen Collins, Kalpana Chawla, and Peggy Whitson. Wednesday: We will learn about the solar system while making our own solar system necklaces. Please provide string, 3/4 inch to 1 inch wooden beads, paint and paintbrushes! Thursday: Today we will learn about a few more female astronauts including: Christina Koch, Jessica Meir, Kate Rubins, Sunita Williams, and Shannon Walker. We will also explore how astronauts train for space. Get those dolls ready to exercise! Friday: Bingo! To finish out an epic week, we will play American Girl Doll/Space/Female Astronaut Bingo. On Monday, after camp I will send home a challenge to learners that they can work on throughout the week. I will ask them to create their own planet. They can draw, build, or sculpt it. They will have an opportunity to share on Friday before we start camp. Camp is a mixture of google slides, discussion, small video clips, crafting and sharing. I am a patient and kind educator who is always excited to work with your child.

Students will learn about space, space travel, female astronauts, and the International Space Station. They will also craft, share, use their imaginations, practice taking turns and MORE!

Please provide guidance as needed for your learner. If crafting with sharp scissors or glue guns, I encourage supervision!

Learners will need some supplies for camp. These are as follows: Monday: Crafting supplies. Anything you have at home. Paper, cardboard, pipe cleaners, tin foil, glue, scissors, ribbons, etc. Wednesday: Wooden craft beads (3/4 to 1 inch), string, paint, paintbrushes. Please also have a small drying area prepared for planet beads to dry on. Friday: I will send BINGO boards a few days prior to needing them for Friday. Please print off and have some kind of BINGO chip nearby. I find that small toys work well. You can also print more than one board in case we have time to play multiple games.

My name is Stephanie and I am so happy to be an educator here on Outschool. I have experience teaching learners of all ages - preschool all the way up through graduate school. My educational background includes bachelor degrees in Art Conservation and Anthropology and a minor in Fine Art. I also have a Master’s Degree in Urban Affairs and Public Policy with a concentration in Historic Preservation. I genuinely love all things material culture, art, history and architecture.
I am also a mom of three children. I love trips to the library, museums, historic sites and parks. I enjoy travel, cold lemonade, reading books, taking walks and shopping locally. My house is filled with lots of love and chaos.
