Learners will need their own copies of all 6 of Samantha's stories. This can be purchased or borrowed in two formats: bound together as "Samantha's Story Collection" or independently as 6 separately bound books entitled: "Meet Samantha," "Samantha Learns a Lesson," "Samantha's Surprise," "Happy Birthday, Samantha," "Samantha Saves the Day," and "Changes for Samantha."

Samantha is an orphan. Her parents have died before the first book begins, however, she does tell about how they died (drowned when their boat was in a rocky area of the lake during a storm). She does not go into any graphic details. One of Samantha's friends, Nellie (and her sisters), also ends up being an orphan. Her parents are alive in the first 5 books. They die between the 5th and 6th books and then Nellie and her sisters become orphans. They end up in an orphanage where they are not treated well. All stories have happy endings.
