For each movement, we will highlight the artist who was the key to the Art Movement and create our own works of art inspired by these artists. We will learn about Realism (daVinci), Impressionism (Monet), Post Impressionism (Van Gogh), Cubism (Picasso), and Surrealism (Dali). Annette the Teacher has been teaching for a very long time. She has over three decades of experience teaching children of all ages. She has a B.A. in Sociology with minors in Biology, Chemistry, and Writing from the University of Pittsburgh. She has homeschooled her own children from Pre-School through (their current) High School. All of her classes are interactive. Annette encourages students to fully participate in class. All of her classes feature hands-on activities and books Annette writes for the class herself. Annette is a published writer, publisher, and artist. She uses her extensive knowledge and experience to create unique classes for every student. She enjoys teaching science, history, art, and cooking classes. She brings history alive with her "Big History ..." classes where students learn about key times in history and complete hands-on projects. "Paint like ... Famous Artists" art classes where students will learn about famous artists and create their own artwork based on the artists' works. "Smart Science" classes where we explore science and complete experiments and projects. Annette knows hands-on, interactive experiences are the best way for children to learn. Annette also has experience working with Special Needs children. She is Mom to a child on the autism spectrum and a child with serious medical needs. She also has worked with children with ADHD. If your child has special needs, please contact Annette so she can work with you and your child.
You will need: A set of paints (LIQUID Acrylics or Tempera) Paintbrushes A set of CHALK PASTELS TWO cups half-filled with water Paper towels A Palette White art paper or heavy paper (You can use a canvas for weeks 3, 4, and 5 if you want.) Paper or canvas should be 9 X 12. A sharp pencil (2H or higher or a regular pencil) An eraser A ruler Notes: * If you are using tube acrylics, you will need an acrylic medium to mix with them. Buy a matte or low gloss medium. This should be available where you purchased your paints. You will also need an artist plastic palette to properly mix your paints. * Watercolor Pan Sets will not work for this class * You MUST have CHALK PASTELS for the second week of class. Paints, oil pastels, colored pencils, etc. will not work for this art work. A note about paints: It is best to have either liquid acrylic or Tempera paints. Tempera paints are inexpensive paints. They are non-toxic and easily washable You can find them on Amazon. This set is the bare minimum on Amazon "Crayola Tempera Paint Set, 2-Ounce, 6 Count" (it costs about $8.00). You will also need a set of CHALK Pastels. This is a good set on Amazon "Mungyo Soft Pastel Set of 48 Assorted Colors Square Chalk" (it costs about $7.00). A more extensive set of Tempera Paints is on Amazon "U.S. Art Supply 18 Color Children's Washable Tempera Paint Set - 2-ounce bottles". This is a good set of paintbrushes on Amazon "Soucolor Acrylic Paint Brushes Set, 20Pcs Round Pointed Tip Artist Paintbrushes for Acrylic Painting Oil Watercolor Canvas Boards Rock Body Face Nail Art, Adult Kids Drawing Arts Crafts Supplies"
Children should be allowed to explore their own artistic talent. I encourage my students to create artwork that inspires them. Every student will have a different level of ability. As long as the student truly makes a true and sincere effort, they will have succeeded.
