In this class, we will cover the 8 parts of speech, 5 parts of a sentence, phrases, clauses, and 4 types of sentences: simple, complex, compound, and compound-complex. There will be supplementary practice that will be reviewed upon request and a final writing practice to ensure understanding. I will be giving students guidance on note taking while we go through the course; therefore, they will need to have lined paper or word processing available during class. Students will take notes, and as I give them the notes, I will be asking questions. They need to be sure to listen because some questions may take them by surprise. I attempt humor to help with student engagement. I enjoy interacting with my students in a controlled manner.

Students will learn 5 parts of a sentence: subject, predicate verb, direct object, indirect object, and subject complements.Students will learn the difference between a phrase and a clause and how to identify each.
