As children listen to a book read aloud, they assimilate strong language skills. They pick up correct word pronunciation, word usage, and proper grammar. Their working vocabulary increases, and they internalize correct sentence structure. Books are also a gateway to different cultures that strengthen Language Development. In this class, African and Middle Eastern Folktale will be read aloud with different themes and lessons. African folklore has a rich history of passing on cultural messages from generation to generation. The lessons/ messages depicted will be discussed after reading. African songs, dances, and chants will be learned along the way. Students will also learn some Swahili words such as numbers, geography, culture, and tradition of where the story comes from. By the end, children will know most of the African Countries, Capital Cities, and their Flags. Class 1 1/5- The tortoise and the hare Class 2 1/12- Between Wealth and Kindness Class 3 1/19- The Calabash Kids Class 4 1/26- Ananse and The Pot of Wisdom Class 5 2/2- When I Get Older (Wavin Flag) Class 6 2/9- The Water Princess (Burkina Faso) Class 7 2/16- Animal Village. Class 8 2/23- Samad In The Forest. Class 9 3/2- Fati and the Soup Pot. Class 10: 3/9- Why Are Termites So Destructive Class 11: 12/4- The Magician and the Sultan’s Son Class 12: 12/11- Who Told The Most Incredible Story Class 13: 12/18- Rabbit Tricks Class 14 1/8- Sulwe Class 15: 1/15- Samad in the Desert Class 16: 1/22- The Hare and the Lion- Ugandan.
