Come learn about African American cowboy, rodeo performer, the originator of modern steer wrestling, and motion picture actor William "Bill" Pickett! In this class, we will learn about Pickett's life and see pictures and videos of his early rodeo performances. Learners will be asked to analyze the images and discuss their observations about the videos of Pickett's "bull-dogging" style. We will explore Pickett's legacy and impact on the modern rodeo by learning about the history of the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo. Learners will also have an opportunity to create a pop-up craft that highlights the major events in Pickett's life and share their completed craft with their classmates.

Students will be provided with a two-page handout to be printed prior to class. Learners will also need colored pencils or crayons, scissors, and glue.
