Learners will be introduced to the tradition of telling stories, passed down from generation to generation within the African-American culture. This class helps students comprehend various styles of traditional stories created throughout the African diaspora. Exposing students to the culture through selected stories, they are able to enhance their understanding of African American traditions.
I am a certified teacher with specialized training in reading interventions, diverse learners, and facilitating groups for students of all ages. 
We will utilize the following materials in this class:

African-American read aloud stories by Susan Kantor.
Talk That Talk- An Anthology of African-American Storytelling, Edited by Linda Gross and Marian E. Barnes
Afro USA - A reference work on the black experience.
African-American Children’s Stories- a treasury of tradition by various authors.
A kids Guide to African-American History by Nancy I. Sanders
