If you're looking for a book club that is both stimulating and challenging, look no further than the Reading Success Book Club for Gifted Readers! This book club is perfect for students who are gifted and advanced readers, as it provides an opportunity to explore complex texts in a supportive and collaborative environment. Your child doesn't have to be officially identified as gifted. If you believe your child is gifted or advanced, and you would like them to have an extra challenge, then this class is for them! With the Reading Success Book Club for Gifted Readers, students will have the chance to discuss classic and contemporary literature with their peers, all of whom are gifted and advanced readers themselves. This is an excellent opportunity for students to develop their critical thinking and analytical skills, as well as to expand their knowledge of the world through the discussing of different cultures and perspectives. In addition to being a stimulating and enriching experience, the Reading Success Book Club for Gifted Readers is also great way for students to make friends and build relationships with like-minded individuals. With each book we read together, we will be discussing and analyzing details, vocabulary, different points of view, patterns, trends, big ideas, unanswered questions, interdisciplinary connections, and changes over time. (If you are familiar with Sandra Kaplan's Depth and Complexity Icons and Scholarly Attributes, this will be our main framework for advanced critical thinking.) 學習目標
Each meeting will be tailored to the needs of gifted and advanced readers. We will start each meeting by discussing the section of the book that everyone has read for the session. Then we will discuss the book and reading through the lens of depth and complexity and scholarly attributes. (Being prepared, curiosity, taking academic risks, multiple perspectives, academic excellence, using multiple resources, vision, and goal setting)
Most importantly, our book club is a safe space for gifted and advanced readers to share their thoughts and feelings about reading. I understand how difficult it can be for gifted and advanced readers to find their place in the world, and I'm here to help them navigate their way to success.
