課堂經歷
**This class is one of a four-part series. You do not have to attend all four (I'd recommend it though!!), nor do you need to take them in any order. Each part of the series will cover different adulting topics. **If you are unable to commit to a six-week class at the times I have listed, please note that I do offer this class as both Ongoing and Flex options! As both my son and daughter graduated recently and entered the adult world, it became evident how many skills they still didn’t know about basics like filling out an apartment application, filing taxes, budgeting, time management, and much more. Many of the life skills teens need are not taught in schools or fall on deaf ears if parents are telling them (I know, it happened to me!) so this is my opportunity to really show teens what some real world situations will look like for them and help them navigate adulthood successfully. Each week, I will introduce the topics below. The course is designed to be very hands-on with interactive activities and handouts students can use either now or later on in their lives. I will also provide an enrichment activity for the learners to do each week and provide feedback on their work. Questions are encouraged; I love learners who are inquisitive! Weeks 1-2: Watch Your Money Grow! (learners will be introduced to compound interest, stocks, bonds, investing, retirement, and how the stock market works) Week 3: Installment Loans (the pitfalls of installment loans, being aware of scams, and installment loans you can’t avoid like buying a car or home) Week 4: Buying a Car (pros and cons of used versus new cars, buying a car within a budget, costs of car ownership, how to shop for one, what to look for in a car loan, and more) Weeks 5-6: Buying Insurance (why insurance can be important, types of insurance (health, vehicle, product, life, renter and homeowner), and calculating the cost of insurance premiums
