課堂經歷
The number one fear given by people in surveys isn't death....it's speaking in front of an audience. My goal is to make acting NOT scary and show how the skills of acting can work for learners in their daily lives. Through scenes from plays and movies, we will learn what actors need to know to create believable, dynamic performances. And, we will laugh. A lot. What can be learned from an acting class? Communication Skills: Acting classes often focus on improving verbal and non-verbal communication. Learning how to express oneself effectively can be valuable in various situations from public speaking to casual conversations with friends. Confidence Building: Acting classes can help young people become more comfortable in their own skin. Participants can overcome shyness, stage fright, or social anxiety, ultimately boosting their self-confidence. Empathy and Understanding: Acting involves stepping into the shoes of different characters and understanding their perspectives. This can enhance empathy and the ability to see things from multiple viewpoints, which is beneficial in personal relationships and in understanding diverse perspectives. Creativity and Imagination: Acting fosters creativity by encouraging participants to think outside the box and explore their imagination. Body Language Awareness: Actors learn to be mindful of their body language, facial expressions, and gestures. Non-verbal communication is a crucial aspect of human interaction, and becoming more aware of it can lead to improved interpersonal skills. Stress Relief: Engaging in acting exercises and improvisation can be a fun and effective way to release stress. Problem-Solving Skills: Acting often involves adapting to different scenarios and making quick decisions. These problem-solving skills can be useful in various aspects of life, from handling unexpected situations to finding creative solutions to challenges. Teamwork and Collaboration: Learning to work effectively with others, share ideas, and collaborate on a project is a valuable skill applicable in various professional and personal settings. Every class begins with warm up games to build community and learn/review basic principles of action based acting. Upcoming activities: January 12/13: YES and! Using improvisation to develop the skill of agreeing and adding on to ideas from your partner...and yourself. January 19/20: Cold reading: Performing from a script with little or no preparation time. What does the character want and what do they do try and get it? January 26/27: Contentless scenes: Working on scripts that are vague. What are the given circumstances that will make sense out of this dialogue? February 2/3: Comedy scenes: Assign and begin working on short, funny movie and play scenes with a partner. Please reach out with any questions!
