In this 4 week, FLEXIBLE class,students will learn basic machine sewing skills as they create 3 finished projects to include a pillow, 2 placemats and a tote bag with handles.(Great for shopping or travel!) This is a flexible class so there are no live classes. I will walk the students through step by step instructions for each project. Students will learn about different fabrics, machine terminology, cutting and measuring fabrics, how to create a pattern,sewing straight seams and more. Sewing is becoming a "lost art" but it is a wonderful life skill that teaches creativity, imagination,focus, organization skills and eye hand coordination. Sewing helps learners build discipline and patience and it also promotes calm and gives a student a sense of accomplishment and pride. Sewing allows a child the opportunity to design and plan. Week 1: Let's Learn about the Sewing Machine and sewing simple straight lines. Plan to have about a 1/4 yard of cotton fabric for practice. Week 2: Make a Pillow.You will need a 1/2 yard of a cotton fabric and a bag of stuffing Week 3: Make Placemats You will need 1/2 yard of two coordinating fabrics Week 4 Tote Bag You will need 1/2 yard of 2 coordinating fabrics and a yard of webbing for handles. Lessons will take 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete. All projects will need thread to match. Please do not hesitate to ask questions and leave comments in the classroom. Students will post pictures of their weekly projects in various stages for feedback. Students can ask questions and they will be answered.Learners should post pictures of their completed projects to share with the class and should comment on others work.

A working Sewing Machi,ne ( Not a toy machine) Basic sewing supplies: Fabric scissors,pins,seam ripper,ruler or measuring tape, thread to match or white for all 1 /2 yard for pillow and a bag of stuffing Thread to match 1/2 yard of two coordinating fabrics for placemats and thread to match !/2 yard of 2 coordinating fabrics and a yard of cotton webbing or grosgrain ribbon for handles * Fabrics will vary in price depending on where you buy them but most stores such as Hobby Lobby and JoAnns etc offer discount coupons on their websites
