In this one time class students will use cookies, cereal or counters to learn beginning division in a hands-on way. The Doorbell Rang will be read and we will discuss how to divide the cookies up among the children in the story. Basic fractions will also be a topic of discussion depending on the students' readiness. I will be using interactive slides to demonstrate how the students should be dividing up their cookies. We will then learn how to write the division equations that represent each...
Students will be able to equally divide objects into groups and write the corresponding division equation. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.OA.A.2 Interpret whole-number quotients of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 56 ÷ 8 as the number of objects in each share when 56 objects are partitioned equally into 8 shares, or as a number of shares when 56 objects are partitioned into equal shares of 8 objects each. For example, describe a context in which a number of shares or a number of groups can be expressed as 56 ÷ 8.
