In this 4-week course, learners will explore various types of maps and how they impact our daily lives while learning how to use them for navigation. Using maps for navigation purposes is an extremely important skill. However, we also use maps for other things in our daily lives. In this course, learners will not only learn to read and use maps but they will be able to explain why each one is important and how they are used. We will cover the following topics: Week of October 3: The History...
Learners will be able to identify features on various maps and be able to use them correctly. They will learn how a compass is used and be able to navigate with it in an assigned activity that will be given. Learners will also be able to talk about the history, importance, and usefulness of maps.
I love all things regarding maps! They are very important tools for geologists and I have used them for many different things from mapping the geologic features and terrain to mapping the locations of various features in real-world work scenarios. I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge and helping young students learn to navigate the world around them with confidence.
Please have the following items for your learner: 1. Folder or notebook 2. Colored pencils 3. Graph paper 4. Compass (required by the 2nd week of class)

We will use maps obtained from the U.S.G.S. in this course. Information will also be presented in Nearpod but students will be able to view it via my screen share feature.
