This course is the 2nd semester of an entire school year course (see syllabus below). Prior to this course students should have some experience in adding, subtraction, multiplication, and division whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. They should also have some exposure to basic geometry such as perimeter, area, and angles. Class Structure - I provide each student with their own copy of a Google Slides presentation. This is where they will complete their work during class and homework. Students must have a google account that is not locked (ie: most school accounts) to use the slides. We will occasionally have brain breaks with games or videos, and sometimes even play Kahoots! Grades can be given based on participation, if requested by parents. I do not give grades based on work completed because I do not believe in allow students t get the wrong answer. We will continue working on every problem together until all students find the correct answer, even on quizzes. Every class begins with a few minutes of socialization/getting to know each other. Then, I teach a math skill, model the skill, and let the students practice the skill. Teaching Style - My teaching style is relaxed and fun. I want the students to be comfortable in my class. I believe that when a student is comfortable and having fun with the teach, they learn the best. I want to foster my students' confidence in their math abilities. --Semester 2(this class) Syllabus: Weeks 1 - 2 - Review of Topics 1-6 and Topic 7 Weeks 3 - 4 - Topic 7 Weeks 5 - 6 - Topic 8 Weeks 7 - 8 - Topic 8 Weeks 9 - 10 - Topic 9 Weeks 11 - 12 - Topic 9 --Entire Year's Syllabus -- Below are the topics that we will cover through the entire school year. The semester will include a short review of Topics 1-6 plus we will cover Topics 7-9. Topics 10-11 will be covered if time allows.* Topic 1 - Integers (negative numbers) and Absolute Value Topic 2 - Rational Numbers Topic 3 - Expressions and Equations (1 and 2-step) Topic 4 - Inequalities Topic 5 -Ratios and Proportions Topic 6 - Percent Topic 7 - Angles, Triangle, and Quadrilaterals Topic 8 - Circles and Area Topic 9 - Surface Area and Volume Topic 10 - Statistics and Probabilities Topic 11 - Data Displays * These are just estimates of the time we will spend on each Topic. I tailor the time spent on a topic to my students' understanding of the concept, so we may go faster or slow through certain topics.

This class uses Kahoot! as an outside resource. It will be used as a class review and reward. Students do NOT need to register or sign up to use Kahoot! They will be given a code that is unique to our session for every game we play. If you have any questions or concerns, please, let me know.
This class uses Google Slides. Students do have to have access to an unblocked Google account. Students that use school owned Chromebooks may need to use an alternate device to use the Slides. If you have any questions or concerns, please, let me know and I can work with you.
We will sometimes refer to the Big Ideas Math website during class. Students will not need to access the site on their computers, it will only be used as a screen share from my computer.

I have a Bachelor of Art in K-8 Interdisciplinary Studies. I have worked with students, ages 2 - 18, in multiple different settings including public schools, private daycares, Girl Scouts, and homeschooling my own children from primary school through high school graduation. I have worked as a Teachers' Aid in a 6-8th grade building in all core classes including 6-8th grade math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geography, Civics, Life Science, and ELA. As a Teacher's Aid, my job was to pull small groups of students and reteach the concepts that were taught by the teacher, but in a easier to understand way for the students that struggled with the concepts. I also worked closely with the teachers to develop class curriculum for both the whole class and for struggling learners. I have over 10 years of experience working with children with both special learning and behavioral needs in a public classroom setting.
