課堂經歷

This class will cover a full year of second-grade reading, writing, phonics, and math curriculum-based common core standards. Learners are welcome to join the class at any time. Although some class content will build from the previous week, it will not prevent the new learner from understanding the concept we are coving during the current week. For example, some weeks, learners may choose to continue a writing piece they started in a previous class, or we may continue reading a book we started in a class prior. In both these circumstances, new learners will be given all the information they need to be successful in class. 

 I am an experienced teacher with nine years of teaching experience. Over the past six years, I have taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade at my local public school, teaching all subject areas(reading, writing, math, phonics, science, and social studies). I am excited to learn with your learner this school year!

I believe in meeting learners at their current academic level and providing an encouraging learning environment to facilitate meaningful learning. Learners should come to class with paper and pencil or whiteboard. I encourage discussions and lots of interaction but also understand some learners prefer to refrain from participating and enjoy listening to class discussions. 

Each subject taught (reading, writing, phonics, math) will include a mini-lesson, group practice, and independent practice. The mini-lesson will include the new teaching point, which the teacher will demonstrate using interactive slides and/or Jamboard.  Math instruction will consist of a worksheet provided by the teacher each week. If you wish to print the worksheet, you may do so, or learners can follow along using a whiteboard or piece of paper while I share my screen during the lesson. 

**This is an ongoing class, so join anytime, as new concepts will not depend on previous classes. Although some weeks' content will build from the previous week, it will not prevent the new learner from understanding the concept we are coving during the current week.**

Week 2: Sept. 11th
              Reading: Learning about characters and Retelling
              Phonics: R controlled and long and short vowels
              Writing: Stretching out small moments and adding details
              Math: Addition fact patterns and thinking addition to subtract

Week 3: Sept. 18th
             Reading: Noticing how characters change and how to bring characters to life
              Phonics: Vowel digraphs
              Writing: Writing a powerful ending and how to revise/edit
              Math: subtraction using a number line and word problems

Week 4: Sept 25th
              Reading: Discovering lessons in our story 
              Phonics: Soft and hard C and G
              Writing: Shared writing day
              Math: Practice addition and subtraction strategies

Week 5:  Oct, 2
              Reading: Read longer phrases by scooping words and using more than one reading strategy at a time
              Phonics: Syllable patterns
              Writing: Introduction to fictional writing and planning our writing           
              Math: Add tens and ones on a hundreds chart and and tens on an open number line

Week 6:  Oct. 9
              Reading:  Introduction to book series and collecting Information about main characters
              Phonics: Inflectional ending -ed
              Writing: Writing the beginning to our fictional sotries 
              Math: Add tens and ones on an open number line and break apart numbers to add

Week 7:  Oct. 16
              Reading:  Paying Attention to How Characters Respond   
              Phonics: Silent letters
              Writing: What makes realistic fiction realistic and adding dialogue
              Math:  Practice adding strategies and solve one and two step word problems

Week 8:  Oct. 23
              Reading:  Notice Similarities in Characters
              Phonics: Trigraphs
              Writing: Using patterns in our writing 
              Math:  Practice adding within 100 strategies and word problems

Week 9: Oct. 30
              Reading: Understand Characters
              Phonics: ew, ue
              Writing: Using illustrations to tell important details and adding punctuation

Week 10: Nov. 6
               Reading: Use What I know About Characters to Make Predictions

              Writing: Editing and meet the author page
              Math: Using models to add two digit numbers

Week 11: Nov. 13
               Reading:: Pay Attention to Relationships Between Characters

              Writing: Shared writing and free write
              Math: Adding more than two 2-digit numbers and practice adding 

Week 12: Nov. 20  (No class Nov. 23)
               Reading: Nonfiction readers read to learn and question

              Writing: Generating topics on for nonfiction how to books and adding information  readers would like to know
              Math: Multi- Step Word Problems


Week 13: Nov. 27
              Reading: Figuring out what this book is trying to teach me and noticing surprising facts
              Phonics: Variant vowels al, ough
              Writing: Add details to nonfiction writing to help the reader and adding a "hook" to interest the reader
              Math: Introduction to 2 digit subtraction without regrouping

Week 14: Dec. 4
              Reading: Thinking about nonfiction "lingo" and using text features
              Phonics: ou, ow
              Writing: Keeping audience in mind and answering my readers questions
              Math: Subtract 10's and 1's on a hundreds chart and count back to subtract on open 
 

Week 15: Dec. 11
              Reading: Using context to build knowledge of unknown words and being a flexible word solver

              Writing: How to revise and edit nonfiction writing and shared writing day

Learners should have paper or whiteboard. Learners should also have a book they will use for reading lessons. It can be any book they choose. The book can be digital if they prefer.
