Hi everyone,
In this class, we are working on 1st-grade math, where the students are introduced to addition within 20. Students will begin to solve addition problems involving teen numbers. The main purpose is composing and decomposing addends. This helps to lay the foundation for the role of place value units in addition. If your child is about to enter 1st grade or wants to review some of the concepts that were taught to them in first grade, this is the class for you.
This is an interactive class where I will be asking kids questions, giving them examples, and also solving a few problems together.
As you can see, I am keeping my group small so that every child understands what I am trying to explain and also be able to interact in class.
📐The requirement for this class:
This class is about adding and subtracting that involves teen numbers. We also have word problems. In order to do this class, the child should be able to understand the decomposition and composition of teen numbers. The learner should be familiar with numbers 0 to 20. 
The learner should have completed kindergarten.

📐This is an interactive class where I will be asking kids questions, giving them examples, and also solving a few problems together.

📐Topics to be covered are:

📐Solve word problems with three addends, two of which make ten. Use the associative and commutative properties to make ten with three addends either with or without story problems. Students prove to themselves that the simplification of addition is a viable strategy.

📐Make ten when one addend is 9. Students practice with adding 9 and another single-digit number as they decompose the second addend to make ten with the 9. 

📐Students see numbers as parts and wholes. Five-groups soon begin to be thought of as ten-frames, focusing on trying to group 10 when possible.

📐Students go through visual progression as they work with 5-groups using objects, 5-group drawings, and number bonds. Five-groups soon begin to be thought of as ten-frames, focusing on the usefulness of trying to group 10 whenever possible.

📐Please note:
In every topic, there will be some problems which we will be solving in class together.
📐In the end, if time permits we will be doing fun math games or share time depending on learner's choice.

📐Learner Goals:
Students get familiar with three addends and realize it is sometimes possible to use the associative and commutative properties to compose ten.
Students get familiar with adding 9 and another single-digit number as they decompose the second addend to make ten with the 9. They also now know the concept of 5 group of ten called the Ten frame.
Students become familiar with focusing on when they may apply commutativity: to compose ten from the larger addend.
Students become familiar with solving a variety of problems involving a mixture of 7, 8, or 9.

Hi everyone! I hope you all are doing well. My name is Mrs. Feroz Zaidi. My favorite subjects are Math and Science. I like to work with 1st and 2nd graders that are around the age of 6 to 8 years old. I teach my math classes through the common core method. The books that I use for referral are Eureka Math books as well as other books that are related to the common core teachings.
As we all know, common core is a fairly new system of learning and understanding math concepts. My classes are for kids who want to either review or want to learn ahead. 
I believe that it’s better to be prepared when it comes to education and know a little about the new concepts ahead of time than not knowing what to expect. I noticed that if your children are attending the public school system; it’s great to have some idea beforehand, as to what will be covered in class. This gives a child a sense of confidence and a head start in class.

📐Educational Background:
I completed my GED and Associate degree in Electrical Technology from Irvine Valley College in 2000 and graduated with Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from California State Polytechnic University in 2004.

📐Teaching Experience:
I have been tutoring math throughout my college and undergraduate years, I tutored various math levels starting from Algebra, Trigonometry, and all the way up to Calculus four. Overall, I have been teaching math from 1997 till 2004 (7 years) which gives me a clear understanding of mathematical concepts and ideas. It helps me explain math by using various methods in solving a problem.
Later on, I started teaching my kids Math, Science, and English from 2012 till the present. I have been educating them in math as well as English from Kindergarten till 6th grade (present) for the past 8 years. I have been volunteering at my kids’ elementary school since 2013 as a helper during circle time and other activities. I continued to be a parent volunteer for Junior Achievement and Project cornerstone ABC reader from 2018 till the present. Currently, I am working as a Sunday school teacher for 1st graders from the 2019 school year till the present.

😃Personal Interest:
Besides teaching, I love to draw and color. We love to travel. So far, we have been to Canada, India, and Singapore. I enjoy watching inspirational movies that are based on true stories as well as, documentaries, science, nature, and educational programs.
