The tutoring covers the 1st grade English Language Arts (ELA) Common Core Standards (CCSS) - Reading - Foundational Skills and Language. I assess the students' needed background knowledge and cover the specific goals the student needs to achieve. I structure classes with minimal direct instruction or lectures, providing the instruction that is needed for understanding of the topic, and discussion to ensure student understanding. I make sure that the student is fully engaged in learning and provide brain brains for fun activities. I provide online activities to ensure students achieve the goals and assess student learning at the end of each session. I use a student-centered teaching style where students are an active part of their learning, personalized learning where instruction is tailored to the students' needs, and have success tutoring 1:1 as well as in small groups. I am also happy to check homework and re-teach when necessary for clarification of the topic.
