NOTE: Parents, I offer almost twenty sections of this 1:1 tutoring class. I am almost sold out for the fall, but I will be opening a few more sections for the winter, though most of my students stay for a long time. Thank you for your interest. I adore working with such great young people!   FORMER STUDENTS, make sure you reach out, as I may be able to find more times. 

1️⃣This is a private class with only ONE student unless we arrange for a sibling to join the class, too.
📚I teach students aged 8-18.  

💠I am the author of over 25 chapter books for children (having sold 40000 books in the last ten years) and a former teacher. I have also been published in magazines, newspapers, blogs, and Chicken Soup for the Soul books. I talk to students about my writing and the writing process and help to foster their own creativity. I have taught writing to 100s of students. I am skilled with grammar to organization to plot development and more. Creative writing is my passion. I want to foster the joy of writing with all of my students, for writing is useful across all disciplines. I am still actively writing and released three new books in 2023.💕✍🏻📝 


📢 It seems that most of my tutoring sections fall into two categories lately.


1. Students come to me having started their own stories, and I help to edit looking for plot holes or grammar issues (if desired) and help the students to strengthen their stories. I have become quite adept at honing in on the issues that can be improved. (And I do this kindly.) The quality of brainstorming sessions students and I have had is amazingly fun! There are high quality stories being written by awesome young people. 🥰 ASPIRING AUTHORS WANTED! I've tutored on 10 page stories and 30,000 word stories.

  #️1 Parent Concern for parents of aspiring writers: "My child is super creative but has no idea how to organize their thoughts or finish a story."

OR...

2. Students come to me with nothing written, and I teach lessons about the elements of a good story, and they build up to writing their own stories.   RELUCTANT WRITERS WANTED!

I love to "unstick" the mind of the reluctant writer and to motivate and organize the mind of the enthusiastic writer in this one-to-one tutoring class. Working together with parent and child I will do my best to not only teach children how to creatively write but how to get those great ideas down on paper. Writing does not have to stink! In fact, writing is one of my most favorite things in the world!

When parents tell me that their child who "hates to write" is writing now after taking my class, it makes me so happy!
Think of me as an aide working alongside your child while helping your child to begin, to strengthen what they have already started, OR to work on specific skills. I am positive and encouraging. 



💠With my unique set of skills as a successful author, writer, and teacher, I am able to help learners to see the small things as well as the big ideas when it comes to their personal writing. I also work with students from scratch to practice the writing process in a fun way.

😃This class will be tailored to your child's writing needs. Parent communication is very important. Students may pop in and out of class as needed in this ongoing class.

IMPORTANT:
😃I work hard to make connections with my students and to make our class enjoyable and educational. Making connections by learning what interests the child is the first step to building trust between the student and the teacher. 

IMPORTANT (PART 2):
😃This class is 40 minutes for $50.
😃I can also make a private section for you for 30 minutes for $40 if you prefer! Just ask. 
😃I am open to scheduling every other week lessons if that is better for you than every week.
 I have scheduled the classes out into the winter for my planning purposes, but, of course, you are not bound to stay that long. 


I have done a large variety of projects within the realm of tutoring which include some of the more specific projects below.
💠Some of the projects I have worked on with students....
       💠Wrote a story back-and-forth with a reluctant, yet creative, writer
       💠Helped a very creative student to organize her thoughts for a graphic novel (She has gone on to write three full graphic novel stories with me.)
       💠Helped students who have started long stories but don't know how to end them, to organize their goals for the story ending
       💠Provided story starters for students to practice creative writing with focus on different story elements like characters or settings
       💠Provided graphic organizers to help students to plan and create their own stories
       💠Worked with students to correctly implement dialogue writing in the story including punctuation skills
       💠Helped students with story editing and proofreading  (run-ons, spelling, plot holes, grammar...Did I mention run-ons?? 😂)
       💠Taught the five-paragraph essay structure with multiple students
       💠Helped students to improve sentence quality
       💠Helped students to create better beginnings, middle, and endings
       💠Taught lessons on how to make more exciting story starters
       💠Taught lessons on figurative language
       💠Workshopped original stories with children to improve and edit (LOTS of great stories are being created by these bright learners!)😃 Some students are aspiring novelists! A typical routine might be me receiving and editing up to 10 pages a week before class, reviewing the edits with the learner during class, and planning for the next chapter. 🥰 I’ve had students with intentions to publish.

Parent/Teacher communication is important so that you are getting what you are hoping for from me! I will communicate with parents via Outschool conversations before our first class to best understand the writing skill your child needs help with for that week. I have lots of resources available, and I am happy to create activities for practice if needed. Occasionally, I can work with students on other ELA needs per parent request, though writing is my main focus.

I have worked with many students to improve creative writing stories. I love seeing their eyes light up with enthusiasm and excitement. I have also taught students basic writing skills in different forms of writing. 💛Please message me if you need a better time for you.
