Does your learner have a reading requirement for a specific novel? Are you wanting to make sure that your learner has the support that they need to read a "classic" novel? In this ongoing class, we meet one on one to discuss a book chosen by your learner (or assigned). Together we will set a schedule of the number of pages and purpose for reading between classes. This class allows you to choose the pace that best fits your learner. We can meet once a week or more. We can also check in...
Read learner selected or assigned books with understanding. Complete any suggested writing or project activities assigned with the book study. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.2: Determine a theme or central idea of a text and how it is conveyed through particular details; provide a summary of the text distinct from personal opinions or judgments. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.9: Compare and contrast texts in different forms or genres (e.g., stories and poems; historical novels and fantasy stories) in terms of their approaches to similar themes and topics.
I have two masters in education, and teaching degrees in both elementary and early childhood education. I have an additional certification in teaching reading. I am highly qualified as both a history and science teacher. I have taught in a public school for over 25 years. I was awarded a Reading Teacher of the Year award twice during my career.
