Students will be able to develop from concrete to pictorial understanding to abstract thinking around math topics and improve their flexibility in applying various effective math strategies to help navigate math in this class and in the world around them . Students will have opportunities to practice a math concept and many opportunities to engage through sharing and asking questions.  

Teaching to the need of the students has always yielded a level of gratification. I have taught lower elementary math for over seven years. I have found that the use of pictures, math manipultatives or other visual and/ or tangible tools has provided students with different access points to the world of math and build understanding as well as physically given them the chance to take their learning into their  own hands on their own terms. Provided purposeful problems, modeled guidance and various practice opportunities to make connections. These opportunities build autonomy as a way to prove mastery, gaining confidence in their math understanding.

If an area of need or strength is presented during the session, the student will be provided supplemental suggestions following our meeting. Including fluency practice sheets or online platform, math task that will engage the world around them, or a follow-up task targeting what was practiced in our 1-on-1 meeting.

We will reference the 'Types of Word Problems' in class
