**Please be sure to see the prerequisites for this class before signing up.** In this 2-3x/week, 1-on-1 class, your learner will gain the skills needed to become a successful reader. Based on the Barton Reading and Spelling program, this class ensures intensive and systematic instruction tailored to dyslexic learners. - Students will improve their phonemic awareness and decoding skills. Students will improve reading fluency and comprehension.
Jen brings a wealth of experience to this class. With a BA in Early Childhood Education, an MA in Instruction and Curriculum, and an endorsement in Special Education, she has taught in both classroom settings and online for over 20 years. Jen has extensive experience working with students with special needs, including those with dyslexia and twice-exceptional (2E) learners. She is a certified Barton tutor, ensuring that your child receives high-quality, specialized instruction tailored to their needs.
Assessment

This class is specifically designed for students with dyslexia, using the Barton Curriculum, an Orton-Gillingham program, to provide targeted, intensive instruction.
Students will need to pass a pretest for memory and sound manipulation. They should already know their letters and sounds.
A computer that supports the remote control feature through Zoom. All students will be required to manipulate the Barton sound/letter tiles during class. A headset for listening closely to sounds without background noise or distractions.
No specific content warnings, but please ensure your child is comfortable using a computer that supports the remote control feature on Zoom. A quiet environment with minimal distractions is recommended for optimal learning. Please double-check which class time you would like with me before enrolling. My schedule will be flexible for the summer.
We will use the Barton Reading and Spelling System, an Orton-Gillingham-based program designed for students with dyslexia.
