6 lessons//6 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1The use of Pace,We will look at the impact of using changes in Pace on a speech exploring WHY it is needed, WHEN it is needed and for WHAT purpose, and HOW we apply these changes.Week 2Lesson 2The use of Pitch,We will look at the impact of using changes in Pitch on a speech exploring WHY it is needed, WHEN it is needed and for WHAT purpose, and HOW we apply these changes.Week 3Lesson 3The use of Pauses,We will look at the impact of using Pauses in a speech exploring WHY they are needed, WHEN they are needed, and for WHAT purpose, the different types, and HOW we can apply them.Week 4Lesson 4The use of verbal Punch,We will look at the impact of using verbal Punch in a speech exploring WHAT exactly it is, WHEN we should use it, and for WHAT purpose, the different types, and HOW we can apply them.Week 5Lesson 5The use of Projection,We will look at the impact of using changes in Projection on a speech exploring WHY it is needed, WHEN it is needed and for WHAT purpose, and HOW we apply these changes.Week 6Lesson 6Creating a strong presentationStrong public speaking is not just about the use of voice though so in our last class we will choose the best speech from the last 5 weeks and look at applying non-verbal skills like the use of facial expressions, body language, gestures and posture.

I am a fully qualified teacher (BAPA, PGCE) with 16+ years of experience teaching English and Drama (and some Music, and PSHCE) to 11 to 16 year olds in bricks and mortar schools, where I currently still teach part-time, including running small group and 1:1 confidence-building workshops. I also have many years of experience leading community workshop schemes (like create a play in a week) and local drama groups for ages 4 to 16. As a professional actress, I've performed to children from ages 2-14 in theatres, arts centres, social clubs, historical properties, nurseries, and schools. Playing roles such as the Gingerbread man and a tortoise, to a wartime headmistress and Queen Elizabeth the first! With lots of Q & A and interactive workshops along the way. I then branched into presenting (live, events, radio, some TV, and for holiday companies across Europe) including some Voiceover work. I currently create and present drama and presenter tuition videos and have a regular podcast. I have produced and directed many productions (musicals and plays) as well, including some I have written myself. I am very experienced in coaching learners to produce their best, and I love seeing them develop in front of my eyes. Many of my ex-students have gone on to study at prestigious London stage schools in acting and directing, even though we are over 200 miles away, and they only take a small number from out of the catchment area each year. I have also coached learners on all different levels, like one who didn't wish to speak when I started working with him (aged 10) but he ended up playing the lead role in his final year production (aged 15).

頻率: 包括細節: Grades will be given, on parents' request, as: 4= Learner is ENGAGING in this skill but has not achieved a secure level yet, 3= Learner is EMERGING in this skill (clearly trying hard with some success, but not quite at a secure level yet), 2= Learner is EXCELLENT in this skill (a secure demonstration given, and clear understanding shown), or 1= EXCEEDING in this skill (a secure, confident demonstration that can be repeated and built on), *Please note that it is very possible that a learner could have a grade 4 and 1 in one course. The area with 4 can then be addressed in further classes with the knowledge of a secure 1 area.
Learners will need to be able to comfortably read a page of text to be able to apply public speaking techniques. I am happy to help with the pronunciation of difficult words and new vocabulary though.
It would be good for learners to purchase their own copy of the book we are using so they can carry on rehearsing after class and find more to work on... but I can provide copies of speeches in PDF form if needs be: 'Monologues for Teens' by Mike Kimmel- ISBN 9780998151311 OR 'Monologues for Teens II' by Mike Kimmel- ISBN 9781953057006
