Z2 Day 왜 성차별이 나쁜가, 그리고 왜 남녀 간의 성평등이 지금 중요한가 Summer Camp

In this class we talk about what equality between men and women is and why it is so important, especially in the workplace, be is at school or in a business. From the viewpoint of an employer (I run 5 companies) and entrepreneur managing diverse teams, I will give modern-day examples of what's going on and how we have to help make equality between men and women exist. This will only be possible when both sexes are able to share equally in the distribution of power and influence; have equal opportunities for financial independence through work or through setting up businesses; enjoy equal access to education and the opportunity to develop personal ambitions and interests.

This class will focus primarily on the issue of workplace equality in the US and UK, but will also examine the overarching issue of why gender equality is so important for accelerating social and economic development.

As this is a 2 x 50 minute class and designed to raise awareness of the issue of gender equality in the workplace, marginalised groups will be mentioned but not discussed in detail. Students will be asked if they can define the term ‘marginalised groups’ and a definition will be provided taken from the European Institute for Gender Equality  (different groups of people within a given culture, context and history at risk of being subjected to multiple discrimination due to the interplay of different personal characteristics or grounds, such as sex, gender, age, ethnicity, religion or belief, health status, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, education or income, or living in various geographic localities). It will be highlighted that belonging to such groups or even being perceived to belong to them heightens the risk of inequalities in terms of access to rights and use of services and goods in a variety of domains, such as access to education, employment, health, social and housing assistance, protection against domestic or institutional violence, and justice. It will be made clear that diversity in the workplace makes businesses more successful, avoid serious or legal issues arising, such as bullying, harassment and discrimination, enable a business to serve a diverse range of customers more effectively and improves creativity and problem-solving. The class will be delivered in seminar format with a combined approach of assessing existing knowledge and awareness through direct questions, providing information from the sources listed and encouraging discussion on the topics of equality, respect and inclusion.

No experience is required to take this class.
