수업 소개
****This is a 5-week flexible scheduling class. There will be NO live meetings.**** *****If you have already taken one or more classes in this series as a one-time class, I will refund you the amount per class you have already taken. You will be exempt from that class's worksheet and discussion board, if you choose. For example: If you already took my "Why Are People Annoying?" one-time class, I will refund you $12 for that one class and you will not have to participate in that week's assignments. Please message me with any questions about this.***** WELCOME to "Why Are People The Way They Are?"! In this 5-week psychology course, students will have the opportunity to answer five questions about why people are the way they are. Each week will focus on a different question through pre-recorded NearPod lessons. While there are no live meetings in this course, that doesn't mean that learner participation is not encouraged! Through videos and out of class assignments, learners will gain the same value they would in a live class- except, they can do it on their own time. LEARNER INTERACTION: To ensure comprehension of the material covered, each class will come with a worksheet with three components: a before class component, a during class component, and an after class component. The content of these worksheets is not extensive nor demanding; rather, it encourages learners to apply the material learned in class to their every day lives. Learners will be asked to complete these worksheets in a week's time. For instance, the week 1 worksheet will be due the day of the week 2 class. Learners can post their finished worksheets (typed or written) to the class page. I will offer individualized attention to each student and offer feedback and comments on their work. In addition to the weekly worksheets, there will be a weekly discussion board on our class page for learners to interact with one another. Immediately following a class, I will post a discussion question that learners will be expected to answer in a minimum of one comment on the same thread. Learners will have the ability to read their classmates' insights and to respond to one another. I will also respond to each student's comment on the discussion board to facilitate open conversation and encourage learners to apply the insights gained to their everyday lives. Week 1: Why Do People Like Power? In week 1, we will define different types of power and gauge what the students believe to be powerful. We will discuss different psychological perspectives on power, look at some powerful people, and explore how to be mindfully powerful in our lives. This class includes examining famous psychological experiments on power, such as the Stanford Prison Experiment, and will include an animation video, polls, and fun quizzes. Week 2: Why Are People Lazy? In week 2, we will explore the science of laziness! We will discuss certain misconceptions about laziness, the root causes of laziness, exceptions to laziness, and how to conquer laziness. This class also includes fill in the blank style activities. Week 3: Why Do People Fall in Love? In week 3, we will attempt to answer the question of why people fall in love. We will explore nature and nurture in terms of who we are attracted to and why we experience the emotion of love- this includes some talk about the brain, neurotransmitters, attachment theory, and more. We will watch an animated video about different attachment styles to assist the learners' comprehension, and we will do other fun activities, too. Week 4: Why Are People Annoying? In week 4, we will dive into the psychological phenomenon of "annoyance", what makes people annoying, how we can respond to annoying people, and more. There will be a matching game, interactive quizzes, and a 4-minute video that shows an excellent animation alongside an explanation of why we humans experience annoyance. Since we all experience annoyance, this class will be funny, relatable, and fascinating for students from all walks of life. Week 5: Why Are People Defensive? In the early 1900's, psychologist Sigmund Freud developed a list of defense mechanisms that are still used by psychologists today. In this class, we are going to be exploring 7 of these defense mechanisms and discussing examples in everyday life. Students will walk away from this class with a clearer understanding of why people act defensive. This class will feature a fill-in-the-blank activity alongside the worksheet provided. I look forward to learning with you! See you in class!
