One of the greatest tools as an actor is a monologue. In this class, we will learn about what a monologue is and how to approach one through fun and engaging exercises. The basis of acting is play, and this class will help each learner to bring this element into acting! In this class each learner will work on a short piece of text and how to make it fun and unique to each young actor! Each student will choose a section of text from the same monologue that we can all work on together. (There...
Learners will have a basic understanding of how to break down a monologue, lines, or piece of text as an actor. They will answer questions like “What does the character want (objective)?”, “Who is the character talking to?”, “Where is the character?”, and so on. They will create a character that is unique to them. I hope each learner begins to define what kind of actor they want to be. They will be able to apply what they learn in class to future monologues and performances!
Learners are encouraged to have a space where they can be loud and can move around. We will be using our full bodies and voices to perform and play games.
The physical exercises and movement will not be too strenuous for the learners. The movement we do in class is not excessive or prone to cause sweating. Bottled water or footwear should not be necessary. However, the student may come prepared with water or proper footwear as they see fit. The movement we do in class is very minimal. Most of the class will be about the performance and the creative process.
