During the class, students will listen to the story about a man visiting riverbank and seashore for his weekend holiday. While "accompanying" the main character, children will be introduced to famous artworks by Cassatt, Gauguin, Glackens, and Seurat. They will have a chance to discuss the paintings, noticing (among other things) the colors of the water. I will use story, games, and discussions to draw children's attention to the mood of presented artworks and evoke children's personal...
The students will learn (or review) what artists do and what type of paintings are called seascapes. During the craft time, children will exercise their fine motor skills and will be encourage to use their creativity.
Materials for Craft: • Cardboard sheet (cut out from cereal or cookie box) • Tissue paper OR construction paper in blue, grey, or green colors • ¼ cup of sand OR whole wheat flour (OR any other flour that looks like sand) • White modeling clay or playdough • Small seashells (optional) • Stickers of fish, jellyfish, starfish, and/or seaweed (optional) • Markers or crayons • Scissors • Glue • Scotch tape
For the craft portion of the class, parental guidance is required for younger students (ages 4-5) for the use of scissors and other materials. Parental guidance is recommended for older students (ages 6-7).
