In this watercolor class, the teacher will guild students through the creation of their own watercolor masterpiece! The students will learn some basic watercolor painting techniques and become familiar with watercolor supplies. Students will also be introduced to the color wheel. We will discuss beginner color mixing skills, as well. By the end of the class, each student will know how to use washi tape as a mask to create a beautiful, abstract geometric painting that any parent would be...
Required Supplies: 1.Watercolor paper- The paper absolutely NEEDS to be made especially for watercolor paint. A great and low-cost option is Canson XL watercolor paper, which is available at most Walmarts, Targets and art stores. 2.Washi Tape/Masking Tape- IMPORTANT! This is the main component needed for creating the class project. Washi tape is a thin, paper-like Japanese tape that is less likely to tear paper when removed. You can find it at most art stores as well as Walmart, Target, etc. Thinner tape (5mm-8mm width) is preferred for this project. If you cannot find washi tape, masking tape can be substituted if absolutely necessary. Students MUST have tape to do the painting! 2.Paintbrush- One brush will work fine. But if students can bring a few different brushes to class, that's even better! They should be round watercolor brushes in sizes 6-10, ideally. 3. Watercolor paint- Any brand or style is acceptable. Just be sure that they have several different colors to choose from. 4. Water- Please have two small containers of clean water for students to clean their brushes and add water to their paints. Please be sure to use heavier containers that are not easily knocked over! 5. Paper Towels/old rag- Only a couple of paper towels or one old rag will be needed. They will be used to get rid of excess water or paint on the brush or to mop up excess water or paint from the paper. The rag will likely be stained, so be sure to give your artist something that you don't mind getting paint on! 6.Pens- One white pen and one black pen will be perfect. I tend to use Pigma Micron black fineliners and Uniball Signo white gel pens in the broad tip size. However, any color of pen will suffice. Please message me if you have any questions or concerns regarding the supply list or anything else! I am happy to help!
