Students will improve their playing as well as their violin or viola setup with their instrument. This setup is crucial in providing optimal sound quality, decreasing mistakes, improving intonation, and preventing long-term injury. Dr. Ana Maria will have each student play through their piece and provide both compliments and constructive criticism on what they can do to raise their playing to a higher level. Because this is an ongoing class, the needs of each student may vary according to the piece they are studying and their own goals for that week. Each lesson segment will be personalized for each individual student.

Some topics which will be addressed include tone production, making straight bow strokes, bow holds, keeping the bow on the "highway" between the bridge and the fingerboard, improving intonation, reducing excess left-hand tension, and matching fingered notes with open strings.

There will be no formal assessment. Constructive comments will be given for each lesson segment every week.

Please scan and send a copy of the student's music through the Outschool portal prior to the start of the lesson so that I can better help your student. If this is not possible, the student may still take this class. Also, please have the instrument tuned prior to the start of class. Thank you so much!
