This class is for students who have already taken my other Video Game Music Class and are looking to level up! Although it is possible to take the classes out of order, I would recommend taking my first class if you haven’t already done so. Also, my age ranges are very flexible. Students will learn a brief overview of 50 years of video game music history. Students will also learn basic musical vocabulary and basic video game design concepts. Most importantly, students will improve their deep listening skills and learn to pick out subtle details in video game music that complement the visuals in the game itself.
This class is based on my own research into video game music from books ("A Composer's Guide to Game Music"), scholarly articles ("Nintendo and Telos: Will You Ever Reach the End?"), and YouTube channels (username "Scruffy"). I have broken down these complex sources for young students to understand. No supplies or resources needed, except for your ears!
