Math:

Students will master multiplication and division problems, including word problems.

Reading:

Students will improve their reading comprehension skills across various genres.
Students will learn to identify main ideas, supporting details, and make inferences from the text.
Students will expand their vocabulary and understand the use of synonyms, antonyms, and homonyms.
Students will Identify problems the characters may be facing and discuss ways to solve them. This will improve their reading comprehension and character analysis skills. We will also be building on critical thinking, respectful behaviors, and problem solving skills.  

Writing:

Students will learn to write clear and coherent sentences and paragraphs.
Students will engage in creative writing, producing short stories, poems, and reports.
Students will learn to revise and edit their writing for clarity and correctness.

STEM:

Students will understand and apply basic scientific concepts related to earth science, life science, and physical science.
Students will engage in hands-on experiments to understand the scientific method.
Students will learn about basic engineering principles and engage in problem-solving activities.

Each week, students will be assigned exercises related to the topics covered in class. These exercises will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. They will be assigned individually to allow students to practice and reinforce their understanding.

Reading:
Students will be expected to read independently for about 20 minutes each day. The number of pages will depend on the book's difficulty level, but a good goal would be around 10-15 pages per day. Reading logs will be used to track their reading.

Writing:
Weekly writing assignments will be given, which could be a short story, a poem, or a report depending on the topic covered in class. These assignments will be individual tasks and should take about 30-40 minutes to complete.

STEM:
STEM homework will be project-based and could be done individually or in groups, depending on the nature of the project. These projects will be spread over a couple of weeks, with different stages of the project being due at different times.

In total, students should expect to spend about 1.5 to 2 hours on homework each week, not including the daily independent reading.

Assignments will be created and scheduled through the Assign content page inside of the class. Students will receive assignments based on the content we cover in class, and they will be due on specific dates. This will allow me to track their progress and identify any gaps in understanding.

As for grading, we'll use a combination of letter grades and written feedback. Letter grades provide a clear measure of performance, while written feedback gives students specific insights into their strengths and areas for improvement.

This class is designed to support unique learners, ex. ADHD, Dyslexia, ASD, Autism, Dysgraphia, etc. 
We will use visuals, hands on projects, and games to learn. Each student will be encouraged to learn at their own pace. 

Students should be able to read on their own and be able to count to 100. 

In our "Explorers of Knowledge: A Journey Through Math, Reading, Writing, and STEM" course, we'll be using a variety of sources to enrich our learning. Here's a general idea:

Books: For the reading component, we'll use a variety of children's literature. This could include picture books, chapter books, and non-fiction books. The specific books will depend on the reading level and interests of the students.

Khan Academy Resources: We'll use Khan Academy's vast library of videos, articles, and exercises for the math and STEM components. These resources are interactive, engaging, and aligned with common core standards.

Online Articles: We may also use online articles from reputable sources to supplement our learning. These could be news articles, blog posts, or articles from educational websites.

Real-World Materials: For the STEM projects, we may use real-world materials like cardboard, tape, and other household items. This helps students see the connection between what they're learning and the real world.
