수업 소개

All learners benefit from learning a method that provides meaning for the information being learned. In this course, learners will learn how to use the widely-used 6 Traits of Writing Model.

Learners will learn the 6 Traits of Writing Model as a model for Writer's Workshop. Each session will focus on one of the six traits of writing. I will demonstrate each trait of writing by showing examples of the trait TO the learners, then we will work together to create an example WITH one another, and following, learners will create an example BY themselves as a part of assigned work outside of the classroom. A portion of the TO format will be dedicated to sharing a mentor text and genre examples.

The six traits are ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions. The seventh trait is presentation. Throughout these lessons, learners will also brush up on grammar skills.

Lesson #1: Idea - This lesson will include the main idea and supporting details to ensure writers have a strong message that is clear and well-organized.

Lesson #2: Organization - This lesson will include the structure of writing and ensuring writers have an organizational and logical pattern to their writing.

Lesson #3: Voice - This lesson will include the tone of the writing and writers will learn that voice individualizes their writing.

Lesson #4: Word Choice - This lesson will include functionality and an understanding of language. Additionally, writers will learn there are specific word choices that suit a type of writing better than another.

Lesson #5: Sentence Fluency - This lesson will include rhythm and flow to the writing cadence. Writers will learn to include a variety of structure and style, as well as varied sentence types.

Lesson #6: Conventions - This lesson will include the mechanics of the writing. Writers will include five elements: spelling, capitalization, grammar, punctuation, and paragraphing.

Lesson #7: Presentation - This lesson will include specific writing guidelines, such as neatness, handwriting/font, borders, graphics, and overall appearance.

Lesson #8: Aspiring Authors - Learners will share their favorite writing trait and an authored example.
