The class will present the science of sound and how sound waves are produced. We will study how sound waves are produced by mechanical vibrations, explore how there are different ways to produce vibrations, and learn how sound waves are examples of compressional waves. Bring as many of the materials as possible: a piece of computer paper, scissors, a wire coat hanger, string, a metal spoon, a balloon, a hex nut that fits in the balloon, a plastic cup (not thick plastic as you'll need to poke a hole it), pushpin, string, paper towel, water, paper clip. Some students may need assistance with some of the activities.
