노인과 바다 - 새로운 연구

The Old Man and the Sea follows the story of Santiago who has struggled with fishing for the past couple of months. After losing his assistant, the old man catches the fish of his life. The novel is the story of the struggle of life and overcoming those struggles. As students read the novel, they will be analyzing character development, symbolism, allegory, and other literary devices through Socratic Seminars (the act of questioning and discussing text) and journal writing where we will collect examples of these devices. Students are encouraged to question the text and the author and to think deeply about the complex plot. Students will also participate in Socratic Seminar discussions while working together to develop a collaborative literary device journal. We will also work through examples of these devices to gain a deeper understanding of the text.

Day Two:
     - Plot Examination
     - Character
Day Three:
     - Allegory and Symbolism
     - Theme and Messages
Day Four:
     - Allegory and Symbolism
     - Character Development

Students will have the option to write an essay based on the work that we complete during our discussions and collaborative work together. This is an additional option that will be provided to students and parents after the class. Students are welcome to contact the teacher for opportunities to tutor through this essay, but it will not be a part of the traditional course listed here.
