수업 소개
"A line is a dot that went for a walk." Paul Klee In this class we will explore the elements of art, color and line. Each week students will be introduced to a different type of line (horizontal, vertical, curved, wavy, diagonal, zig zag, spiral). We will then practice making the "line of the week". Through a multi-sensory and kinesthetic approach students will have multiple opportunities to practice making each type of line. We will then learn about a famous artist and explore their genre of art work, paying special attention to the colors and types of line used within the work. Though guided instruction, we will create our own masterpiece inspired by the artists work. Students will learn the correct vocabulary words for each type of line and develop prewriting skills in preparation for handwriting and advanced art techniques. Additionally, we will delve into color theory, gaining an understanding of primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. As the classes progress students will further explore monochromatic, complimentary, and analogous colors. Finally, we will cover the basic rules for the proper use of art supplies and how to care for our materials. For example, in our first class we will learn about vertical and horizontal lines and primary colors. We will then explore the work of Piet Mondrian. Using a second camera, the students will help me first construct a piece of art work inspired by Mondrian. This will give an opportunity to practice our new vocabulary words and concepts. As we create the work students will also be asked to verbalize line length, shapes, size, and practice prepositional phrases! Finally, with support and guidance, students will create their own masterpiece. This class has a playful nature. Each session will begin with a movement poem and positive mindset. New concepts will be introduced through songs, stories, finger plays, puppet shows and little games. I will use a fun, interactive, multi-media approach to reach all learning styles and engage the learners. Each class period will end with an "Art Show" in which children will be able to show off their own works of art. Students will be encouraged to give positive feedback and compliment their peers! Periodically we will take a field trip to an art gallery! My family owns an art gallery attached to our home and I will take students on a virtual tour and together we will discuss the works of art in our current exhibition. Week 1: Vertical and Horizontal Lines, Primary Colors, Piet Mondrian Week 2: Curved Lines, Complimentary Colors, Kandinsky Week 3: Wavy Lines, Fauvism, Henri Matisse Week 4: Diagonal Lines, Cubism, Pablo Picasso Week 5: Zig Zag Lines, Ancient Greek Vases Week 6: Spiral, Impressionism, Vincent Van Goh Week 7: Vertical and Horizontal Lines, Color Theory, Josef Albers Week 8: Dashes and Dots, Pointillism, Georges Seurat Week 9: Review, Art Gallery Tour and Virtual Art Exhibition

Welcome to The Friendly Forest School!
I come to you with a wealth of knowledge, classroom experience, and a passion for teaching young children though play.
My classes follow a Waldorf-inspired approach that focuses on the holistic development of children, ensuring that academic skills are nurtured in an engaging and imaginative manner.
A predictable peaceful rhythm, delightful melodies, American Sign Language, and captivating tales (often set in the Friendly Forest) infuse every lesson, making learning a joyful exploration!I
By embracing the ebb and flow of nature's cycles, my goal is to help children feel grounded, secure, and ready to absorb knowledge with open hearts and curious minds.
ABOUT ME:
My journey began in the summer of 2001 when I had an internship in Early Childhood Education at the Children's Museum of Indianapolis. After graduating from Purdue University with my Bachelors Degree, I began working as a social worker and case manager for young children in LaPorte, Indiana.
I then moved to Phoenix, AZ and started my journey in Special Education, working as an in-home therapist for children with Autism and other developmental disabilities. I specialized in building expressive language through American Sign Language. Additionally, I focused on treating the whole child though sensory integration and positive behavior support. In 2005 I was named by the Governor as Arizona's "Caregiver of the Year"!
In 2006, I obtained my Masters Degree in Special Education and began working in a K-6 Self Contained Classroom. During this time I worked to develop an award winning School-wide Positive Behavior Intervention Support program based entirely on peace and mindfulness. I was awarded the "You Make a Difference" award by the Osborn School District for my work on this project!
My daughter, Eleanor, was born in 2010. In 2013 I left the classroom to be a full-time mama. My youngest daughter, Annalise, was born in 2013. During this time I began to adopt Waldorf philosophies at home and began homeschool using Waldorf and Montessori inspired pedagogy.
In 2017, I started my own Early Childhood Center called "Let's Play Learning". The developmentally appropriate curriculum was based on the view that children learn best when they are actively exploring the natural world and a carefully constructed environment in the company of their caregiver and directed by loving, professionally prepared teachers. I closed my doors at the beginning of the pandemic and began teaching online, which I love!
In my classes I strive to create a culture of peace and mindfulness while teaching academic skills through nature, imaginative play, storytelling, and artistic expression.
I now live with my family just five minutes away from beautiful Lake Michigan.
